The well-hollowed vessel is carved in the form of an archaistic phoenix, standing with its talons firmly tucked beneath the body. The bird is finely detailed with a stylised crest surmounting its head, while its elegantly sweeping tail forms the handle, intricately pierced and carved with ruyi-shaped plumage extending gracefully around the vessel. The sides are carved in high relief with outstretched wings, richly embellished with layered feathers and archaistic scroll motifs.
