Probably Bavaria around 1480, A carved wood figure of St Barbara, presumably Bavaria, around 1480, Carved in the round. With partially overpainted older polychromy. Depiction of the saint standing in contrapposto, to be viewed from a slightly lowered viewpoint. St Barbara is depicted crowned and with her attribute, the tower, beside her. The quality of this sculpture is especially evident in the way in which the cloak drapes around the figure's body and the precise rendering of the saint's long, curling tresses. With a narrow vertical crack on the reverse. Losses to the crown, the hands presumably replaced. Wear throughout. Includes a modern round wooden plinth© Lempertz — view on Lempertz website ↗
