  1. South German circa 1600, A South German bronze relief depicting the Exposure of Romulus and Remus, circa 1600, Cast, chased and with old patina.. This high relief in bronze is one of seven known near copies after a stone relief made in circa 1530 by Loy Hering (the original is kept in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the copies in museums in Dijon, Munich, Berlin, and London, the former Rhò Collection in Vienna - nowadays in Berlin Bode Museum -, art market and the present work). The stone relief was in turn based on an engraving by Heinrich Aldegrever (Bartsch 66). The minor differences in details in the copies indicate that the bronzes may be products of the so-called "Dürer Renaissance" of around 1600. Presumably the last copy in private property.
